JROTC Program
For the tenth year the Tampa
Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will provide the SAR JROTC medal
for local JROTC units in order that one of the deserving cadets in each unit
may be recognized. We present this award twice- once at our April meeting and
again at each unit’s annual awards assembly.

The cadets are invited to
our April luncheon meeting at which time we present the award. The members
truly have enjoyed meeting the cadets and their families. The conversation is
always lively. Many of our members are veterans, some from WWII, and the
interchange between a WWII veteran and a young cadet is, we think,
invaluable. Last year, nine JROTC units were able to send their cadets. The
talks given in past years have been geared to the cadets and have been
especially well received. Pictured (left) are the nine cadets that attended
the 2009 luncheon. |

There are four ROTC units
at local universities in our area and we present ROTC awards to these cadets
as well. Most of these recipients go on to enlist in service to our country
and it is a pleasure for us to honor their commitment. Dwight Tetrick

In addition, the National
and State Societies of the SAR conduct a contest in conjunction with the JROTC
awards. At the state level cash awards are given for the top three places.
There are addition awards at the national level. In order to qualify, the cadet
must be in the third year of a four year program or second year of a three year
program, and be deemed the unit’s most outstanding cadet by you. Additional
information can be found at www.sar.org/youth/jrotc.html.
